A DISTANT PARADISE

South of the Mayan Riviera, Quintana Roo and 19 miles from the Costa Maya, Banco Chinchorro,
a very special reef range, rises more than 3,300 feet from the ocean floor.
An ellipical coral formation, the Chinchorro is a false atoll, or platform reef, that originated, like the Yucatan Peninsula, in
recent geological times through the successive movment of the earths crust.
Beneath the Caribbeans turquise waters, the corl reefs are veritable marine troical jungles containing a wealth and diversity
of life forms.
Their inceadible natural beauty can be discovered only a few feet below the surface, making them accessible for snrkerlers
and scuba divers.
