I was at the Akumal Beach Resort March 18-25 and I can highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Akumal. The resort is right on the beach. You step out of your room and you're there! The rooms are clean and big. They aren't extravagant, but who wants to spend time in the room when you can sit in the warm sun and swim in crystal clear water? Each room has a veranda which is great to sit out on at night and listen to the waves. The food is very good and the staff is excellent. There are always activities you can participate in and the entertainment at night is terrific and at times very very funny! There is a large Italian contigency but they tend to be very nice and lots of fun to chat with. The resort has taken on some new travel companies and so there are a lot more Canadians and Americans traveling there. There is lots to do outside of the resort. We went to Chichen Itza for the Spring Equinox and to Xcaret which was a great day. I highly recommend a trip to Playa del Carmen for a night at Senor Frogs...its definately an interesting experience! Mostly its a great place to relax and the only problem you will have is forcing yourself to leave at the end of your trip. My friend and I made several great friendships down there with the staff. Ivan, Moses, Alvaro, Tommy, Mya, Eric, and of course my now very good friend Julio are all so warm and friendly that you'll look back with many happy memories. I know I do every day!
