Here is our trip report for June 9-17. We did not stay at the Copa, nor did we do a lot of exciting things. As a matter of fact, we didn’t do nearly everything we wanted to. We prefer to venture out on our own, so we didn’t do any tours or anything. The good part is, we have to go back to visit soon so we can do the things we missed!

Day 1- Saturday, June 9

We had traveled from Tupelo, MS to Oxford, AL on Friday night, so we only had about 90 minutes to drive on Saturday morning. Our flight was to leave at 12:20 p.m. We got up, got the kids (2 boys, Harris-age 8 and Spencer-age 5) ready and went for some breakfast. Our traveling companions, 2 couples with no kids, had gotten in late the night before, so we got them up. We drove to the MARTA station to use the long-term parking there and took the train to the airport…luggage, stroller and all. We packed light for a family of 4 leaving for 9 days, but we will pack even lighter next time! The only issue we had was trying to get my family seated together, but it worked out. We arrived in Cozumel on time, 2:20 p.m., made it through Customs in about 15 minutes total, and grabbed a cab to the ferry pier ($35 US for 8, expensive, but they have set prices) and actually made the 3:00 ferry to PDC. We got off the ferry, got our luggage, and Jose from Buster Rent-a-Car was waiting there. He helped us with our luggage and took us to the car. We got a Suburban ($660 for the week, inc. taxes and insurance, plus $30 to pick up and drop off at PDC). Checked out the truck, even taking pictures of the dings, signed everything, and off we went. Jose even took us out and pointed us to the San Francisco Market. The kids are getting tired, so they stay in the A/C in the car with my husband while the rest of us shop for essentials. We get beer, margarita fixings, and, oh yeah, food and head out again. We stop at the Pemex and fill up- wow, a Suburban takes a lot of gas- and head down to Akumal. We have no problem finding Aventuras Akumal and Memo and Marcy’s condo. Memo lets us in the house, Casa Salvaje, shows us around and gives us some pointers. The house is great- just what we wanted. We walk out back and are blown away by the view- it’s beautiful! We unload the luggage, and grab suits, cervezas, and hit the beach. It is now about 5:30 pm, we have a couple of hours just to enjoy doing nothing! We decide to just go to Lol-Ha for dinner about 7:30. Great location, great view. We eat (it’s okay), check out the Kid’s Club and go home. It’s been a long day!
