Day 2- Sunday, June 10 We originally had grandiose plans of going to Tulum today, but when we woke up, no one wanted to do anything but read, snorkel, sun and drink beer. Repeat. So, we did a whole lot of nothing. Finally, my husband, Kevan, brother, Josh, and friends Wes and Angela decide to go shopping. Now, I am the only one with a working knowledge of Spanish. But I had no motivation to leave my beach chair, and the others seemed to want to go. About 2 hours later, they come back and have only gotten beer! They went to the Superior distributor in Tulum, and had a language problem. They worked it out, though. They weren’t adventurous enough for the markets in Tulum or the Akumal pueblo yet, so they then headed back to PDC for food. They finally made it back. My brother’s fiance, Amanda, and I had stayed with the kids, so we were nice and rested. I did have to explain why the Italians next door were topless to my 8-year-old, but the novelty wore off pretty quickly- faster than with the grown men! We cooked that night, and went to bed fairly early. I could get used to this! Day 3- Monday, June 11 Today is Angela’s birthday, so I talk to Marcy about getting a sitter for the boys. She arranges for her son to keep them, and my kids are thrilled about having a teenage boy babysitter. We get up early and go to Tulum. Wes is already having stomach problems, but we think he brought it with him (the rest of us were fine). We get there, park, and buy the train ticket. Only 15 pesos. I saw so many people pushing strollers in the heat- it’s only 15 pesos! Oh, well, to each his own. We didn’t hire a guide, just walked around and took in the scenery. We enjoyed it- got completely eaten by mosquitoes, and forgot to bring our spray. Ate leftovers for lunch, let the 5 year old take a nap, and hung out on the beach all afternoon. Snorkeling is great again. We fed the kids dinner, then went to La Cueva del Pescador. Really good food, pretty pricey. Great service, nice folks. Kevan and I had the grilled seafood platter for 2- it was very good. We then went to La Buena Vida and drank a few margaritas. Nice location, pretty touristy, but fun. Pooped after a long day- went to bed. Day 4- Tuesday, June 12 Another lazy day. Snorkeled, swam, sunned. Did a little shopping, then went to Akumal for lunch. Kevan and I took the kids to the Loncheria, the others went to Lol-Ha- the gringos had to have a burger. The Loncheria was very good, and very economical. It has my vote! Went back to the villa, sunned, swam and snorkeled. We needed some groceries and to change some money, and we are too lazy to go back to PDC. So we went to Tulum to one of the markets there. They had good prices, and everything we needed but meat. Went to the Super Chomak for chicken and fish- the pescadoria in Tulum didn’t have anything suitable. The kids were dying to go to the Kid’s Club, so we took them that night, and had an adults-only evening at the house. Made margaritas, and grilled chicken, fish and vegetables. It was great. Picked up the kids, they had a great time. Sat on the beach, went to bed. Day 5- Wednesday, June 13 I honestly don’t know what we did this day ( I was WAY too lazy to keep a journal). I’m sure it was more sunning, swimming, and cervezas, maybe throw in a little shopping. Water was pretty rough for snorkeling. That night, we went to Pizzaria Leos in CD Chemuyil. It was really good! Everyone really enjoyed it- great place to go with a group, because everyone likes pizza- even the kids and gringos with queasy stomachs. Had another wonderful evening on the beach. Day 6- Thursday, June 14 Today we go to Xel-Ha. We get up early, and are the first ones at the park. We were there when it opened, and were truly the only ones there. It was great! Kevan and I took turns snorkeling while the other rode the inner tube with Spencer. By now, Harris is snorkeling like a pro. We went down the river, and by the time we got all the way down, it was about 11:00 and some of the first tours were arriving. We decided to go ahead and eat. We ate at the grill, so we came out much better by not getting the all-inclusive. We all have our own snorkel equipment, so it would have been a waste of money for us. We managed to miss all the crowds wherever we went. By about 2:00, it was getting cloudy (the water) and crowded, so we left. It really was beautiful, and we saw tons of fish (some HUGE ones) and more rays. We cooked at home again that night, and hung out on the beach. Time is starting to fly now, and I’m really getting sad.
