Day 7- Friday, June 15 Wes is feeling bad again. We leave tomorrow, and have still not made it to a cenote, so the rest of us decide to go. Angela feels sorry for him, so she stays. We debate over Casa Cenote or Dos Ojos, and pick Dos Ojos. We drop the boys off at Kid’s Club, and head out. We stop at the little stand on the side of the road, and negotiate a guide ($20 for 4 people). Andreas speaks good English, and is very friendly. The road is horrible! I see why most of the vehicles we see are ATVs. The Suburban even has a hard time. We finally get there, and go down to the cenote. There is a platform to jump off of (pretty high), and it is pretty dark. Glad we hired a guide. We jump in…IT IS COLD!!!! By the time we get through I am shaking visibly, and Andreas is laughing. It didn’t stop me though! This was the best thing we did- the caves and underground rivers are stunning. I am usually clautrophobic, and I worried a little about being underground, in tight dark places, but I was fine. The rock formations were unbelievable. In the immortal words of Amanda, ‘ I feel like I’m in F#$%^% National Geographic!’ It was fabulous. We stop and buy a celebratory cerveza at the refreshment stand, and Andreas tried to teach us some Mayan phrases on the way back. Great morning. Picked up Wes and Angela, eat at the Loncheria, and picked up the kids. Laid out our last afternoon on the beach, snorkeled, cut my toe (on the last day of course) on the coral- I misjudged the waves while rinsing my mask- and got ready to go eat. Took the kids to Kids Club for their last time (they REALLY loved going there) and went to eat at Ole’ Ole’. Very nice, very clean, GREAT prices. The margaritas were very fresh. The tortilla soup was wonderful. For some reason, we all got conch. It was okay, but some couldn’t eat it at all. BUT, everything else was great, we will be back (probably several times at their prices) on our next trip. Expect about 60-65 pesos for an entrée. We picked up the kids and went home to pack. We are spending the last night in Cozumel. We are really sad and don’t want to leave. We pack, and sit on our beach one last night. Day 8, Saturday, June 16- Get up, pack the car and leave about 8:45 am. Buster Rent-a-Car is meeting us at the pier at PDC at 10:00 (bad judgement on my part due to ferry schedule, but oh well). All goes well, and we wait for the 11:00 ferry. Get on, and are in Cozumel by 11:30. We get our luggage and a taxi ($20US for 8) to the Costa Club Cozumel. Very basic hotel- Wes was in heaven. Total air-conditioning and satellite TV, we wouldn’t see him much for 24 hours. We ate at the beach grill (burgers, quesadillas, etc.) and took Harris to the pool. He loved it. Amanda and I laid out there all afternoon ( I even won at bingo) and just did nothing. We hired a sitter that night since the kids were wiped out, and went to eat and shopping for a couple of hours. Came home, went to bed. Day 9, Sunday, June 17- Got up and went to Rock n Java for breakfast. Really good. Came back, went to the pool for a while. Got dressed and ate lunch. Tried to talk Kevan out of going to the airport 2 hours early, it is not Atlanta. No such luck. We get to the airport at 1:15 for a 3:30 flight, and are checked in by 1:30. Oh, boy, 2 hours in the Cozumel airport. Oh, well, we finish our books. The flight home was uneventful, I wish I could say the same about the drive. Got home at 1:30 a.m. due to traffic problems. It was a fantastic trip. We loved the house and the area, and we are already planning on going back. All the advice from this board really made the difference! Thanks to everyone!
