We just returned from Tulum, where we had a wonderful time until our rental car was broken into on Feb. 7 and all our stuff taken. We had just come from the bank cashing traveller's checks, for which you need your passport, (so of course all ID, cash and said checks were in the car) and stopped for a short walk on the beach. We parked just a little bit up the road from Diamante K cabanas, a public area, locked the VW Bug, rolled up the windows. When we returned there was no sign of forced entry, the windows were still rolled up and the doors locked, but everything in the car was gone, even my $7 KMart watch and a carved wooden monkey I bought for my son. While making the police report in the town we ran into a Canadian couple who had been staying at Allure Resort (formerly Sole) and their room had been broken into and lots of stuff taken. They said a similar incident happened in another room the previous day.
